Ever wish you could flirt with your favorite book character — and maybe rewrite the spicy scenes yourself? I dove headfirst into Love & Spice, an AI-powered romance platform that lets you craft your own story (and smut). Here’s the good, the bad and the hilariously horny truth about my experience.
My Honest Review of Love & Spice

By Nicole Danielle (with the help of AI — full disclosure)
What Is Love & Spice?

Love & Spice is an AI-powered interactive romance platform that lets users shape their own love story by chatting with AI characters. Think of it like a choose-your-own-adventure book — but spicier.
You answer questions, make choices and decide how the romance unfolds. The service isn’t free — it’s subscription-based — but you can toggle between “steamy” and “safe” story modes depending on your mood (and maybe your current public setting).
How Much Does It Cost?
Love & Spice currently offers three plans — one month, six months and 12 months — ranging from $50 to $241.20 total, depending on the length.
Discounts of up to 78% are often available for new sign-ups. There’s also a fun little referral program: share your personal link and if someone joins through it, you get a free month.

How It Works
Here’s the basic flow according to Love & Spice:
- Take the Quiz: Answer a few flirty questions about your romance preferences.
- Unlock Your Story: The app generates a personalized romance based on your choices.
- Dive In: Start reading and interacting with your story instantly.
- Choose Your Path: Make decisions that shape the plot — and the ending.
The Real Scoop (From Someone Who Actually Used It)

There are a lot of stories to choose from — everything from contemporary and romantasy to historical and LGBTQIA+ options. There are even threesomes. Basically, if you can imagine it, it’s probably there.
You can either pick a pre-set story or create your own from scratch. And that’s where things start to get … interesting.
When I first started, I went full throttle on “Spicy Mode.” Rookie mistake. My main male character would not stop springing back to life (if you know what I mean) and I burned through my month’s worth of Spicy Mode credits faster than a quickie in the backseat.
My first story (“The Hunter’s Prey” with a witch and a hunter) was also annoying the heck out of me. The AI kept throwing in endless side quests that dragged the plot out forever. I tried nudging it along using the “Guide Next Response” tool (you can type your own “do” and “say” elements) but it still wandered like a drunk bard at a renaissance fair.
By my third story (“The Royal Arrangement” with a king and queen setup), I finally started to get it. You can edit, delete, or even undo sections of the story. And best of all, you can completely create your own story and rewrite whatever you don’t like.
Once I started using the journal feature — which lets you tweak world-building details, character descriptions, and even the story’s “memory” — I got hooked. Like, “scrolling at 2 a.m. in bed and my husband is getting annoyed” hooked.
What I Love About Love & Spice
- You can fully customize a story — pre-set or original — to match your vibe.
- Even if you run out of Spicy Mode credits, you can still create steamy scenes by feeding the AI your own detailed prompts. (Yes, I tested that. Thoroughly.)
- The editing tools make it feel like you’re co-writing your own romance novel — without the pressure of an actual deadline.
I definitely prefer my custom-created stories over the pre-set ones. They just feel more me. (Hello, Haakon the Viking in “Captured by the Chieftan.”)
What I Found Challenging
- There’s a definite learning curve. I missed a few key tools early on and spent too much time being frustrated before realizing how much control I actually had.
- Getting the right level of spiciness is tricky. “Spicy Mode” tends to default to nonstop smut, which gets repetitive fast. You can make the AI write slower, more detailed heat scenes — but you have to handhold it a bit.
- Lack of closure. As many of our podcast listeners know, I NEED closure. And these stories are not meant to wrap up any time soon. Which had me crying out, “just end already!” with “The Hunter’s Prey.“
And honestly? If I have to read “his cock rose to the occasion” one more time, I might yeet my phone into the sun.
What Concerns Me
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the ethical and environmental concerns around AI.
AI writing requires massive data centers (which means big energy use), and there’s also the issue of AI-generated books being sold without disclosure. It’s frustrating as hell to see human creativity undermined like that — especially when you’ve spent years honing your craft.
We’ve even come across suspected AI “authors” in the podcast. The giveaways? Repetitive scenes, weird pacing, random side plots, and phrases like “he smelled of salt and leather” popping up ad nauseam.
So, if you do use AI to write, please:
- Disclose it. Be honest about how you created your work.
- Edit. Edit. Edit. And for the love of all that is holy, get a human proofreader.
Who Love & Spice Is Best For

Love & Spice is perfect for:
- People who love to write or world-build.
- People who love a slow burn.
- Readers who miss the thrill of Choose Your Own Adventure books.
- Romance lovers who want something interactive, playful, and customizable.
If that sounds like your kind of fun, go ahead and give it a whirl — and maybe help me earn a few Spicy Mode credits in the process.
Just be warned: once you dive in, you might not come up for air anytime soon.
Bottom Line
Love & Spice is messy, imperfect and surprisingly addictive. It’s not going to replace your favorite romance author anytime soon. But if you like to flirt with fantasy (and your phone), it’s absolutely worth exploring — especially if you know how to rein in the AI when it gets too eager.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, my Viking hero, Haakon, is waiting — and I’ve got edits to make.
🥂
